anne wetzel, educator
I have three boys; a 4 year old, a 2.5 year old and a 9 months old.
Babywearing is important to me because it enables the closeness and comfort for the wearer and the baby. It has helped to soothe my oldest who was colicky, helped to elevate my middle son deailing with reflux, and helped to create a “womb-like” experience for my youngest who was born premature.
I decided to become a volunteer for NYBabywearing because I wanted to provide support to new parents and caregivers. When I went to my first meeting I felt like a deer in headlights and did not know where to begin until one of the educators (Haley) approached me and was able to help find me a carrier which suited both mine and my sons needs. I wanted to be that same comforting presence and help to the new and familiar faces that frequent our meetings.
I can usually be found at the Yonkers and Brewster meeting. One of my favorite activities to do while babywearing is hiking. I started hiking with my oldest when I was 8 weeks pregnant with my second with Haley and a few other babywearing moms. I ended up hiking my entire pregnancy and then was able to hike while tandem wearing with my toddler on my back and the baby on my front.
When I’m not babywearing I can usually be found shuttling back and forth to my kids school, their various play groups and extracurricular activities.
I am also well versed in twin and tandem wearing so if you need help wearing two babies at a time or two children of different sizes come find me at a meeting!
